Have you asked these questions when you’re interviewing candidates?
- What are your strengths?
- What are your weaknesses?
- Why are you interested in working for us?
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
- Why do you want to leave your current company?
- Tell me about yourself?
They’re the most often asked questions but what do they really tell you about the job applicant?
Interviewing and hiring people takes a lot of time. Managers often find it unpleasant because they wind up with the wrong candidates or they don’t know what to ask.
You want to ask the right questions to find the candidate’s internal motivators or attitude. What about their problem-solving skills? How quickly do they learn new information? How do they manage change?
The hard skills are easy to find. But, the right attitude is more difficult to suss out. To us the ROI on this type of management training is huge. Get it right and you have a well-functioning team and productivity. Get it wrong and you will more than pay the price with costs to the company and team morale.
